Leipziger Messe Announces Date for Second L.A.B. Exhibition and Conference
Following the debut event in autumn 2007, Leipziger Messe announced that L.A.B. - the trade fair and conference for analysis, bio and laboratory equipment in the UK - will be held for the second time from 27-29 October 2009. Held every two years, L.A.B. is the only platform of its kind in the UK for the European laboratory and analysis sector - and will take place in 2009 at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham. At the inaugural 2007 event at ExCeL London, the latest products and services were showcased to the analysis, bio and laboratory equipment industries by 88 exhibitors, including market leaders such as Eppendorf, LAUDA Dr R. Wobser, Buchi UK Ltd, Sotax Horiba, Lancer, Sympatec, AES, Metrohm, Retsch and Erlab. In 2007 L.A.B. drew 1,300 trade visitors from 22 countries.
The L.A.B. exhibition is aimed at manufacturers and users of analysis equipment from industry, R&D and public bodies. Analysis, bioscience and laboratory equipment is used in a wide range of applications, including the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, food and tobacco companies, as well as in medicine and environmental engineering. The exhibition at L.A.B. is accompanied by a conference featuring top-level speakers and presentations on relevant industrial issues.
L.A.B. is organised by Leipziger Messe, with support from SPECTARIS, the Berlin-based German Industry Association for Optical, Medical and Mechatronical Technologies, and GAMBICA, the Association for Instrumentation, Control, Automation & Laboratory Technology in the UK. In preparation for the 2009 L.A.B. exhibition, Leipziger Messe will also work with Fabrilabo, the French Association of Laboratory Equipment Manufacturers and Traders.
\"GAMBICA and the British laboratory equipment industry are looking forward to the second L.A.B.,\" comments Tim Collins, Director Laboratory Technology Sector. GAMBICA. \"Its debut in 2007 was welcomed by the industry in the UK with open arms, and there\'s no doubt in our minds that the coming event will be a clear improvement. The NEC in Birmingham will make an outstanding venue for L.A.B., and we shall continue to support organisers Leipziger Messe to stage a first-class trade show and conference.\"

The European analysis, bio and laboratory equipment market
Although Germany and the UK are the biggest trading partners in Europe, only a fraction of the British market is involved in key international exhibitions in Germany. According to a study by SPECTARIS, in 2006 the market volume of the European analysis, bio and laboratory equipment industry grew by 11% to $27.8 billion, nearly 30% of which was accounted for by Germany (22%) and Great Britain (7%). SPECTARIS also reports that the total turnover of the German analysis, bio and laboratory equipment sector rose in the same period by 8.2% to ?5.76 billion. Meanwhile growth in 2008 has been forecast at 7%, taking total domestic and foreign sales to ?6.13 billion. The market study goes on to report that last year, sales abroad notched up by Germany reached ?3.12 billion (up by 11.4%) and are expected to grow a further 8% to ?3.36 billion in 2008, taking the export quota from 54% to 55%.
